Facing Goliath [283/366]

Today's image is another study in contrast - a mighty Oak tree towers over a lonely dandelion.

I had a couple of choices to make for this shot. My main subject is the dandelion, so what to do with the tree? Keeping it completely in focus and sharp is on option, the other, let it fade into blurriness.

I chose the latter for a very good reason. Keeping the tree in focus would have lessened it's presence. Allowing it to become slightly out of focus broadened the perceived distance between the dandelion and the tree. In effect, I made the tree seem larger than it appeared.  Don't you feel afraid for the dandelion? Goliath is coming over the hill and yet our little hero is standing ground - shakily.

I'm glad we've had such cloudy weather these past couple of days. The opportunity to photograph such dynamic skies is a nice change.

But, I'm ready for some sun now, please and thank you.
